Andy Sherrod, leader of Hirschler’s Employment Law Team, will discuss best practices for properly classifying a company’s workforce. We will discuss the following topics:

• Requirements for designating workers as independent contractors versus employees.

• Rules for classifying employees as exempt or non-exempt for purposes of overtime pay under federal law.

• Common pitfalls in worker classification and how best to avoid them. Worker misclassification has long been costly, but new Virginia laws have made it even more so.
